Attempting to exit through the door first[edit source]

  • Captain Jal Degreene: You should talk to me before going through that door.

Only on the first time[edit source]

  • Captain Jal Degreene: Aha, you must be the new recruit.
  • Player: Yes, I'm Player. I've joined the town guard today, and I was told to report to you.
  • Captain Jal Degreene: Player, eh? Welcome to the Hopeport Garrison.
  • Player: Thank you. I'm eager to learn how to be an effective guard.

      • Player: Ma'am. Yes, ma'am. Understood, ma'am.
      • Captain Jal Degreene: Don't overdo it. No one likes a toady. So tell me, why do you want to be a town guard?
      • (Continues below.)
    • Okay Jal. I'll try to remember that.
      • Player: Okay Jal. I'll try to remember that.
      • The Captain slaps her forehead.
      • Captain Jal Degreene: I can tell you're going to be hard work. Why do you even want to be a town guard?
      • (Continues below.)
    • Yes, ma'am.
      • Player: Yes, ma'am.
      • Captain Jal Degreene: Very good. So tell me, why do you want to be a town guard?

      • Player: I wish to serve this glorious town, ma'am.
      • Captain Jal Degreene: My, we are keen.
      • (Continues below.)
    • I'm hoping for excitement and adventure.
      • Player: I'm hoping for excitement and adventure.
      • Captain Jal Degreene: We've had a lot of goblin problems lately, so I'm sure you'll see excitement soon.
      • (Continues below.)
    • I need the money.
      • Player: I need the money.
      • Captain Jal Degreene: Well the pay gets better once you've proved yourself a valuable member of our force.
      • (Continues below.)
    • I don't even know how I ended up here.
      • Player: I don't even know how I ended up here.
      • Captain Jal Degreene: Let me tell you, you've stumbled into a marvelous job.
      • (Continues below.)
  • Captain Jal Degreene: Luckily for you, we have some excellent career opportunities since we lost a squad in the Mine of Mantuban.
  • Camera focuses on the doors. The doors open. The camera pans back.
  • Captain Jal Degreene: Now head to the courtyard through that door and speak to Corporeal Binns to start your training.
  • Choose option
    • Wait. You lost a whole squad. Should I be worried?
      • Player: Wait. You lost a whole squad. Should I be worried?
      • Captain Jal Degreene: Hmm? Oh, we sent a squad into the mines to see why the goblins were getting so aggressive. We've not seen them since.
      • Captain Jal Degreene: You should concern yourself with other things, like reporting to Corporal Binns.
    • Thank you. I'll get right on it.
      • Player: Thank you. I'll get right on it.

Afterwards[edit source]

  • Captain Jal Degreene: Why are you still here? Head through that door and talk to Corporal Binns in the courtyard.

Talking to Corporal Binns[edit source]

Only on the first time[edit source]

  • Corporal Binns: So Captain Degreene is scraping the bottom of the barrel for new recruits? Okay whelp, head to the quartermaster in this building here, and collect your standard issue gear.
  • Corporal Binns: Then you need to learn some guard magic. Talk to Anjay to the west. He's Hopeport's magic supressor. Tell him you need guard's access to use magic.
  • Corporal Binns: Once you've done all that, report back to me.
  • Choose option

      • Corporal Binns: You don't know much, do you? They're people with a special talent for neutralizing magic in the immediate area.
      • Corporal Binns: What's more they can detect the magical signature of individuals and let that magic through. We're lucky to have him here. Not every town has one of his ilk.

Afterwards[edit source]

  • Corporal Binns: You need to get geared up. Head to the quartermaster in the building to the southeast of this training ground.

Talking to Captain Degreene at this point[edit source]

  • Captain Jal Degreene: I'm sure you don't need to disturb me right now. Corporal Binns will tell you what you need to do.

      • Anjay Sandorman: Wow, your aura is ... unusual.
      • Player: Unusual? How's it unusual?
      • Anjay Sandorman: Hard to explain. However your request is fulfilled. You are free to do magic in Hopeport.
      • Player: That's all well and good, but I don't know any magic.
      • Anjay Sandorman: We have a guy who teaches some useful spells for new recruits and I suspect you have the aptitude to learn.
