      • Player: Hello mister. I'm told you'll be training me.
      • Corporal Binns: Mister? What do you mean, mister? You're in the town guard now and you'll treat your superiors with respect.
      • (Continues below.)
    • Reporting for duty sir.
      • Player: Reporting for duty sir.
      • (Continues below.)
  • Corporal Binns: So Captain Degreene is scraping the bottom of the barrel for new recruits? Okay whelp, head to the quartermaster in this building here, and collect your standard issue gear.
  • Corporal Binns: Then you need to learn some guard magic. Talk to Anjay to the west. He's Hopeport's magic supressor. Tell him you need guard's access to use magic.
  • Corporal Binns: Once you've done all that, report back to me.
  • Choose option
    • I'll get right on it sir.
      • Player: I'll get right on it sir.
    • What's a magic supressor?
      • Player: What's a magic supressor?
      • Corporal Binns: You don't know much, do you? They're people with a special talent for neutralizing magic in the immediate area.
      • Corporal Binns: What's more they can detect the magical signature of individuals and let that magic through. We're lucky to have him here. Not every town has one of his ilk.

Afterwards

  • Corporal Binns: You need to get geared up. Head to the quartermaster in the building to the southeast of this training ground.

Gearing up

      • Anjay Sandorman: I sense that you've been told to ask for guard's magic access.
      • Player: Yeah, very clever.
      • Anjay Sandorman: Okay, I am going to check your magical signature.
      • Anjay places his hand on the player's forehead.
      • Anjay Sandorman: Wow, your aura is ... unusual.
      • Player: Unusual? How's it unusual?
      • Anjay Sandorman: Hard to explain. However your request is fulfilled. You are free to do magic in Hopeport.
      • Player: That's all well and good, but I don't know any magic.
      • Anjay Sandorman: We have a guy who teaches some useful spells for new recruits and I suspect you have the aptitude to learn.
      • Anjay Sandorman: Look for Sultar Malzak. He can be a little full of himself, but he knows his stuff.
    • What is it that you do?
    • Is that because I opened my mouth in order to talk?
    • I sense this conversation is going nowhere.
    • You sense wrong. I'm speaking to you by accident.

Talking to Captain Degreene

  • Captain Jal Degreene: I'm sure you don't need to disturb me right now. Corporal Binns will tell you what you need to do.

Quartermaster

  • Quartermaster: Ello mate. What can I do for you?
  • Choose option
    • I've been sent to fetch my guard's equipment.
      • Player: I've been sent to fetch my guard's equipment.
      • Quartermaster: Okay this sword is standard issue for new recruits. Please look after it.
      • Player receives Recruit's sword.
      • Quartermaster: Next you should finish learning your guard's magic.
    • Do we need four of you to make a whole master?
    • Can you teach me magic?
      • Player: Can you teach me magic?
      • Quartermaster: As it happens I do know one very useful spell...
      • Quartermaster: I will teach you a 'rift' spell which lets you access any equipment you have stored here, no matter where you are.
      • Quartermaster takes a step back and teaches the player the spell Quartermaster Bank Rift.
    • I'm just looking around.
