Hopeforest[edit source]
Trying to walk into the locked area[edit source]
- Corporal Binns: Hey, you're meant to be reporting to me, not breezing off on your own.
- (After three attempts:)
- Corporal Binns: I'm tired of your insubordination. On the floor and do ten push-ups.
- The player gets on the floor and does push-ups. Screen fades out and back in after four push-ups.
Talking to Andrath[edit source]
- Andrath: It's not the warmest of days for a trip to the forest.
Talking to Channette[edit source]
- Channette: I've been looking forward to this training exercise all week. Anything to relieve the boredom.
Talking to Corporal Binns[edit source]
- Screen fades out and back in.
- Corporal Binns: Okay recruits. Today we are going to be testing your ability to hide and your ability to track.
- Toblaine: Hiding? Now that's something I'm good at.
- Corporal Binns: What have I told you about interrupting? Give me ten press ups.
- Template:QacT
- Corporal Binns: Jermais and Player, you will be the first hunting team. You will wait here while everyone else hides in the forest.
- Corporal Binns: After ten minutes. I will give you some hints about how to track down your friends.
- Corporal Binns: A word of warning we're now in the sphere of the Hopeport obelisk, so all your Hopeport tuned weapons and armor will be weak here.
- Corporal Binns: Expect to struggle if you get into fights with any of the locals.
- Corporal Binns: Toblaine. Haven't you finished with those push-ups yet?
- Toblaine: Uuuurgh. My arms hurt.
- Corporal Binns: Ugh. Just give it up, and get hiding.
- Toblaine stops doing push-ups. The recruits leave to hide in the forest. Screen fades out.
- Ten minutes pass.
- Screen fades back in.
Talking to Delana[edit source]
- Delana: Is it necessary to train in the forest? I'll get my nice uniform all dirty.
Talking to Jermias[edit source]
- Jermias: I hope we get to fighting something out here.
Talking to Toblaine[edit source]
- Toblaine: I hope this training exercise doesn't involve fighting.
- Player: There wasn't much point in becoming a guard if you're going to avoid fighting at all costs.
- Toblaine: You're right. I should pull myself together.
Getting hints[edit source]
Trying to walk into the locked area[edit source]
- Jermais: All right! Let's hunt down those jokers.
- Corporal Binns: Hold up. You two are suitably keen to get going, but blundering around the forest with no clue won't help.
- (Continues below.)
Talking to Corporal Binns[edit source]
- Choose option
- How does this help me become a better guard?
- Player: How does this help me become a better guard?
- Corporal Binns: There will be times when you need to track down a criminal or an enemy agent.
- (Shows the previous options.)
- You said you'd give us some tracking hints, sir?
- Player: You said you'd give us some tracking hints, sir?
- Corporal Binns: Indeed I did.
- (Continues below.)
Talking to Jermais[edit source]
- Jermais: I'm going to win this thing. We'll hunt down those losers in no time.
Investigate footprint[edit source]
- Corporal Binns: Here you can see fresh boot marks, such as those made by members of the town guard. Your cohorts have headed east.
- Choose option
- Also we saw them go east. That's a better clue.
- Player: Also we saw them go east. That's a better clue.
- Corporal Binns: I'll pretend I didn't hear that. Let's follow the trail.
- Brilliant sir. Should we see where the trail leads?
- Player: Brilliant sir. Should we see where the trail leads?
- Corporal Binns: Yes. Lead on.
Forest Clearing[edit source]
Talking to Corporal Binns[edit source]
- Corporal Binns: Remember those boot marks indicate your cohorts headed east.
Investigate footprint[edit source]
- Yes, it definitely seems to be a footprint that points east.
Entering the Forest Clearing[edit source]
- Corporal Binns: Before I forget. I already gave the other recruits a fear potion before you turned up.
- Corporal Binns: It'll stop hostiles attacking you for a while. Lasts quite a bit longer than an immunity spell. You might need it out there.
- (Without one free backpack space:)
- Corporal Binns: You don't have enough backpack space to take the fear potion though. Clear out some of that junk.
- (With one free backpack space:)
- Corporal Binns hand the player a fear potion.
- Player receives 3 minute potion fear.
- Corporal Binns: Right you two. Let's see if you can find any tracks in this clearing.
Finding tracks[edit source]
Talking to Corporal Binns[edit source]
- Corporal Binns: You still need to discover signs of the trail taken by your fellow recruits.
Talking to Jermais[edit source]
- Player: Can you see any signs of a trail?
- Jermais: I'm looking. I'm looking. Get off my case.
- Player: Er, okay, I'll leave you to it.
Investigate smashed mushroom[edit source]
- Screen fades out and back in.
- Jermais: I think I've found something.
- Corporal Binns: Excellent work. It looks like someone has trampled on this mushroom. East is the right way to go.
- Corporal Binns: You two can head on without me now. Report back here when you have found the others.
- Screen fades out and back in.
Deep in the forest[edit source]
Walking in the wrong direction[edit source]
- Corporal Binns: I don't think the others went that way. You should come back and try a different direction.
- Choose option
- Okay I'll come back.
- Player: Okay I'll come back.
- I'd like to explore this way anyway.
- Player: I'd like to explore this way anyway.
- Corporal Binns: What? You can't just wander off in the middle of a training exercise.
- Player: Don't worry I won't be long.
Investigate smashed mushroom[edit source]
- This smashed mushroom is indicating your fellow guards may have headed east.
Talking to Corporal Binns[edit source]
- Corporal Binns: Have you located your fellow recruits?
- Player: Not yet. This tracking business is hard.
- Corporal Binns: Stop being so wet. Get back out there, and keep searching.
.
Talking to Jermais[edit source]
Before at the central crossroads[edit source]
- Jermais: I guess we follow this trail east.
At the central crossroads[edit source]
- Jermais: Which way do we to go from here?
Before at the north central path[edit source]
- Jermais: I guess we follow this trail north.
Walking in any direction at the central crossroads[edit source]
- Jermais: Hey, we didn't find any clues leading that way.
- Choose option
- Okay Jermais, I'll come back.
- Player: Okay Jermais, I'll come back.
- I don't care about the training exercise. This way looks interesting.
- Player: I don't care about the training exercise. This way looks interesting.
- Jermais: You're on your own then. I'm not about to annoy the corporal.
Investigate smashed mushroom at central crossroads[edit source]
- Is this another clue on the trail I'm supposed to be following?
Getting to the end of the north central path[edit source]
- Screen fades out and back in.
- Jermais: I can't see any tracks. How do we know which way to go here?
- Choose option
- You're right. Let's split up.
- Player: You're right. Let's split up.
- Jermais: Good plan. You go west. I'll go north.
- Jermais heads north.
- There must be a clue somewhere. Let's keep searching.
- Player: There must be a clue somewhere. Let's keep searching.
- Screen fades out and back in.
Heading north[edit source]
- You decide to ignore your agreement with Jermais and head north rather than west!
Talking to Dryad[edit source]
- Dryad: Why do you wish to hurt me, Praneatheus? What has instilled such anger in thee?
