In ''Brighter Shores'', '''items''' are objects that can be taken by the player and placed into the [[backpack]], [[toolbelt]], Profession [[Equipment]], or in the [[Quests|quest]] interface. Some of them may be used for further processing, while others may be consumed for benefits to the player or equipped to increase the character's [[combat]] stats.

Items can be received as drops from [[monsters]] and searchable [[scenery]] such as [[trunk]]s. When [[coins]] are received, they are put automatically into the money pouch found in the [[toolbelt]], while other drops appear on the ground for the player to take. Items can also be received from some [[non-player character]]s and scenery, or purchased from [[shop]]s without being drops. Items can sometimes be placed into [[bank]]s for storage and later retrieval.

Items dropped to the ground by the player have a despawn time of ten minutes. Dropped items never appear for other players. The maximum dropped items allowed is 100 items (regardless of tile or room), after which the earliest items will be deleted.

Items can have one or more actions in their action menu. On ground, they always just have the "Take" action, and when equipped the "Unequip" and "Info" actions. Selecting the "Info" action on an item opens its [[card]], showing the item's name, image, a short description, and potentially graphics corresponding to the item's [[Episodes|episode]]. The "Info" action always appears as the last action in backpack, toolbelt, and in the quest interface. [[Weapons]] and [[armor]] always have "Equip" as their first action which can be used to equip the item, provided that the player meets the requirements to do so.
