Patch notes for 3rd Jan 2025

Christmas 2024 event has ended

  • It is no longer possible to collect additional Christmas 2024 hats. You can however still swap hats with other players.

Quality of life improvements

  • You can now queue multiple actions to run one after another. This is particularly useful for foraging, fishing, woodcutting and mining. For example, you can click on each of the trees in a chunk to have your player chop down each tree in turn. To queue an action instead of running it immediately, just press SHIFT + left mouse button. If you wish, you can change which shortcut is used to queue actions from the 'controls' interface.
  • Now when certain collectable blocks/npcs re-spawn (such as foraging items, fish, trees, brambles, ores, etc...), ALL the matching blocks/npcs in the same room will also re-spawn in rapid succession. This doesn't let you level up any faster, but is less frustrating and goes well with the new queuing feature described above.
  • Move the 'Work for Ebsworth' passive activity option to a new station, so there are not two activities at the same station.
  • Show the number of completed ventures on the ventures drawer button.
  • Change the default action on a gate in Crenopolis once you have progressed far enough in the quest to use it as a shortcut.
  • Make it clearer that at level 200+ the passive activities are more powerful, but also require more than 1 KP to unlock.
  • Add a new key-bind for centering the map. (defaults to N).
  • Add a master volume control to the settings interface.

Balancing

  • Adjust the time taken to cook Garlic Herring and Dab Stew, so the activity can continue for longer before needing to be restarted.
  • Make minor adjustments to the XP rewards in merchant bounties to reflect recent map changes.
  • Move a table in Bert's gallery to allow for more time for spotting thieves.

Compatibility

  • If the computer has more than one graphics card, and the primary graphics card is for some reason unable to run the game, automatically fallback to the second graphics card.

Bug fixes 2nd Jan

  • Adjust the Wendigo portraits to more closely match their appearance in game.
  • Make the walls in the Market Chambers tall enough to block javelins (and other projectiles).
  • Fix various typos.

  • Queued actions no longer close drawer interfaces.
  • Requesting a non-queued action now clears the queue correctly in more places.
  • Fix console error in Apothecary.
  • Fix error when certain high level investigation clues were present at the same time.
  • Improve drag sensitivity if the corresponding mouse button has no click action bound to it.
  • Fix various typos.

2 January 2025 - Unlisted update

No patch notes were published, but the build string was incremented to 0.17.2-840fa4504aa696fb. Numbers indicating queued actions are now color coded by episode region.

13 December 2024 - Unlisted update

No patch notes were published, but the build string was incremented to 0.16.3-40c346118c50fda5. The previous patch made the default action of banks to open the menu, but this update reverted the default action to open the bank and added a "deposit all" button to bank interfaces.[0.16.3 1]

Quality of life improvements

  • Add 'drop all' action to backpack item menu.
  • Add checkbox to select/deselect all items in the sell-all tab of the shop interface.
  • Allow ventures to be aborted directly from the venture interface. I.e you no longer need to walk back to the venture spot, if all you want to do is abort.
  • Make it so the 'default action' for some specific blocks/npcs is to open the menu rather than do the first action on the menu. This is used if there is more than 1 action you are likely to want. For example on banks you often want 'Open', but also often want 'Deposit all'.

Bug fixes

  • Improve layout of transmog interface.
  • Change the facial hair clues in detective investigations to be more distinct.
  • Fix bug where leaderboards did not update your score unless your rank changed!
  • Fix bug where new characters could not chat during their first session (i.e. until they logged out and logged back in).
  • Fix bug where occasionally rooms lost most of their textures until they were reloaded.
  • Fix various typos.

10 December 2024 - Unlisted update #2

No patch notes were published, but the build string was incremented to 0.15.4-11902665e8a1fed6. This update fixed a bug where selecting "Past Actions" would not work and cause an error.

No patch notes were published, but the build string was incremented to 0.15.3-211d14cfd2762e6a. This update fixed a bug where Christmas hats were not dropping.

Christmas 2024 Event

Christmas has arrived in Brighter Shores! Christmas themed hats in a variety of styles and colors will be given to you randomly as you play the game and earn XP. There are 20 different hats to collect.

To make it a easier to find the hat you want, or complete your collection, you can swap Christmas hats with other players. Click on a player in 'Nearby Players' to offer to swap the hat you are wearing with the hat they are wearing.

This event will end in early January, after which it will never be possible to collect these hats again, so you can use them to prove you were there for the first ever Brighter Shores Christmas.

Quality of life improvements

  • Passive foraging and gathering now give only the item for your level, rather than a mixture of items up to your level.
  • Improve routing finding so characters no longer try to route through closed doors such as incomplete crime dens.

Bug fixes

  • Fix auto-withdraw quantity for kelp and wallplants.
  • Improved the message in the past actions interface when you do not have enough knowledge to perform the action despite drinking a level boost potion.
  • Fix bug where the wall puzzle in the "Spirit Essence" quest would disappear at certain window sizes.
  • Fix various typos.

  • Knowledge can now go up to 200% before you must spend it.
  • The default action on the wall safe in the guard's archive is now 'use item on' instead of 'close'.

  • Fix floor tentacles being able to attack twice rapidly if you open combat with a melee attack.
