Andrew Gower is the founder of Fen Research, and the designer of the game Brighter Shores. Before working on Brighter Shores, he was most known for the popular MMORPG RuneScape, which he created while studying at the University of Cambridge.

In 2010, Andrew left the Jagex board of directors. That same year, on 6 June 2010,[1] he founded a new company named "Fen Research", developing tools for game developers. Similar to when Andrew developed the JAGEx "Java Audio-Graphics Extension" Java library with the intention of licensing it to interested game developers (between the years of ca. 1997 and late 2002),[2][3] Fen Research actually ended up using their "Fenforge"[4] game engine & tooling to release their own games: Solstrike and Iona's Toybox.

On 12 March 2024, Fen Research announced their most ambitious and popular game yet: Andrew Gower's Brighter Shores, a new graphical MMORPG with skilling elements and quests.[5] It had been previously teased under the name "Top secret game" on Fen Research's website for over ten years.[6] On 6 November 2024, Brighter Shores released publicly in early access, to a peak of approximately 20,000 concurrent online players.[7][8] As of now, Andrew Gower is still actively involved in developing Brighter Shores, stating there are many plans for future expansions.
