Experience

Killing monsters and fulfilling certain tasks will grant players Experience (known across most games as XP) which they can accumulate to increase their levels in professions. Players will start a profession with zero XP, and are able to level their professions to level 500.

When crafting items or killing Monsters that have a collectable card; or , you will receive a one time experience bonus to the related profession. You can find a list of all bonus experience at specific levels here.

Required experience amount breakpoints

Based on the above table, we can notice a few breakpoints in the experience formula:

Novice

Levels 0-6 : every level requires around 2,95% more experience than the previous one;

Levels 7-12: every level still requires 2,95% more experience, but the required experience is also doubled;

Levels 13-20: again, every level requires 2,95% more experience, but it is once again doubled.

For example, going from level 13 to level 14 requires slightly more than 4x the experience required from level 4 to level 5.

Apprentice to expert

Levels 21-200: the required experience, per level, has been quintupled (explaining why you suddenly feel like you hit a wall once you are at skill level 20), and every new level from 21 to 200 requires 1,94% more experience than the previous one.

Expert to ultimate

Levels 201-500: the required experience per level is now quadrupled, then every new level requires around 0,60% more experience than the previous one.

Conclusions

Since the experience gain per action grows at a similar rate than experience needed (the percentage increase), but with no breakpoints, one can assume that the amount of actions required to level up from, let's say, 21 to 22, is the same than the one required from 198 to 199.

Levels 0-20 are easier for the sake of allowing players to explore new professions quickly, and can be seen as the introduction to a skill and its game loop.

Levels 21-200 are intended to be regular levels, requiring some dedication from the player, and setting them up for the final xp wall. Most of the game's content for a particular skill is unlocked prior to level 200.

Finally, levels 201+ encourages the player to identify and specialise in a select few skills that they would like to pursue achievements in, such as leaderboards and the ultimate cape, or for their own enjoyment.

Impact of knowledge conversion into experience

Between levels 20-200: converting one knowledge point into experience grants 25% of a level.

However, between levels 201-500, each KP grants 6,25% of a level. Given that levels 200+ take four times more actions, this means that the experience each KP gives retains their numerical scaling from 20-200, but are 4 times less effective due to the increased experience per level. This encourages active training and prevents KP being used to significantly skip over endgame content..

Experience modifiers

The game imposes several experience modifiers for overlevelling certain activities, as detailed below.

Combat experience modifiers

In combat and activities which utilise combat experience, such as Crime Dens, the combat experience awarded per monster kill will depend on several factors involving the level difference between the player and their target. As of phase one of the combat rework on 6 March 2025, the previous Easy battle penalty formula has now been replaced by two separate experience modifiers:

• A revised version of the Easy Battle Penalty, which begins the moment the player outlevels the monster, capping at 25%, and
• A level-adjusted xp modifier based on the combat level difference between the player and monster, applied in tandem with the new Easy Battle Penalty. This affects the experience over a greater span of levels than the former, and affects monsters both above and below the player's own level.
• The amount of KP awarded per kill now decreases much faster at lower level differences compared to before.

Monsters will seemingly now award a certain amount of minimum experience once the player has outlevelled them by some fixed amount. This seems to be around 1/3 of their base experience value.

Passive activity penalty

The player will incur a 50% experience penalty for doing passive activities below the highest tier available to them in any profession, with decimal experience values after calculation being rounded down. This penalty is not explicitly displayed anywhere in-game. This experience penalty is applied immediately upon reaching the level of the next passive activity, based on the moment the player receives the experience drop that causes the level up. As such this penalty is applied even before the player unlocks their newest passive ability.

Offline experience is only awarded upon the player relogging back into the game. Therefore, assuming the player does not log in too early, it is possible to log off before a passive tier breakpoint for 24 hours to obtain the maximum amount of non-penalty experience, using it to level beyond the breakpoint. However, deliberately doing this over active training is not advised, as active training will always yield faster experience rates.

In combat, when fighting a passive enemy with the minimum strength weapon required, each kill will take 20 seconds, giving maximum XP. When the player reaches the level for the next passive, a 50% penalty will also be applied, as detailed above. Beyond this, as the player levels up further and gains access to weapons with greater strength, the kill time per monster for that tier will also be decreased and experience per kill adjusted accordingly, such that your rewards per hour remain constant, at 50% of base value.
