As with the bow, if you start a fight above 5 tiles away vs a melee monster, you can throw all 4 whilst walking backwards to allow for maximum damage output before being hit by the monster.
The Guard's Plumbatae will not automatically switch back to your melee weapon after throwing all 3 or 4, so try not to be distracted whilst throwing them.
